Rimmel 1000 Kisses Lipliner - Indian Pink

Rimmel 1000 Kisses Lipliner - Indian Pink
When hunting for THE perfect lip pencil to go with my Bojours Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick (can be found here), I delved into the isles at Boots and swatched nearly every lip pencil going, well that’s what it felt like anyway. Until I found this one by Rimmel, 1000 Kisses Lip Liner in Indian Pink and wow, I think I’m in love.

This lip liner is just a sensation of a product, it’s hydrogenated lanolin helps the pencil just glide onto the lips. It’s enriched with capric oil, which when applied to the lips softens the carunba wax to help give super smooth application. You’d think with a pencil liner you’d get a lot of bleeding and shading patches but with this there are Mica particles which help to fill the crevices of the lips so there’s barely any bleeding at all, plus it’s infused with Vitamin E and anti-oxidant properties so it’s doing good for you too!

The staying power is just second to none, I applied this at about 9am and then added the Bojours Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick on top and by about 4/5pm I found I still had a super crisp outline and no patchiness. The pigmentation is incredible, as you can see from the swatches below this is a no fuss liner.

Bojours Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick - Frambourjois

Bojours Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick - Frambourjois
Can I get a halleluiah? This is the first liquid lipstick colour that actually stays put and doesn’t dry out your lips!! I intend to buy this lip product in every single colour as I’ve never found anything like it before. With 6 shades to choose from there’s definitely something for everyone to get their hands on.
The Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick is a lightweight liquid lipstick with a velvet matte finish that really lasts; I can wear this liquid lipstick for about 5-7 hours before needing a good reapplication. It comes in a clear plastic bottle and the lid matches its corresponding shade, which I thought was a nice touch when your rummaging around your makeup bag for it instead of trying to find the bottle it’s easily recognizable by the lid.

This liquid lipstick has a doe-foot applicator which makes for non-messy, relatively easy precision application straight onto the lips, although I do find a lip liner makes it much easier. It applies very wet, which I thought was strange compared to other liquid lipsticks I’ve tried and does take a few minutes to full dry but when it does, well that’s when the magic happens. This product dries to a matte velvety texture which you don’t expect nor really know how to describe, it’s still moveable around the lips so doesn’t dry them out and does have a tiny bit of transfer onto mugs etc (TOP TIP – Lick the side of your mug/glass before you drink from it and you will not get any transfer, tried and tested).

You can apply as many coats of this as you like, at any point in the day and it’s still extremely comfterable and won’t go flakey or messy, or do those horrible things where it dries in certain areas and makes it look patchy. This product will not budge once applied; I found a makeup wipe was the best way to take it off so you don’t end up looking like the joker from Batman.

To apply things like liquid lipsticks, I like to exfoliate my lips first and then apply some lip balm, whilst doing the rest of my makeup first to ensure my lips will be prepped and ready. By the end of the day it hadn’t smudged outside the lines, seeped into the fine lines in my lips or gone from the middle of my lips. This really is my hero product and I cannot wait to get my hands on more colours.

EXPERT TIP: Apply using your fingertips for a softer look or use the applicator and build up the coverage for an intense statement pout.

Depression, PTSD & Anxiety – My Story

Depression, PTSD & Anxiety – My Story

Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is an anxiety disorder that can develop after a person is exposed to one or more traumatic events, such as major stress, sexual assault, warfare, or other threats on a person's life. Symptoms include disturbing recurring flashbacks, avoidance or numbing of memories of the event, and hyperarousal, continue for more than a month after the occurrence of a traumatic event.
Depression is a state of low mood and aversion to activity that can affect a person's thoughts, behavior, feelings and sense of well-being People with depressed mood can feel sad, anxious, empty, hopeless, helpless, worthless, guilty, irritable, ashamed or restless. They may lose interest in activities that were once pleasurable, experience loss of appetite or overeating, have problems concentrating, remembering details or making decisions, and may contemplate, attempt or commit suicide. Insomnia, excessive sleeping, fatigue, aches, pains, digestive problems or reduced energy may also be present.
Axiety is a feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease about something with an uncertain outcome. A strong desire or concern to do something or for something to happen.
Don’t let your mind bully your body into believing it must carry the burden of its worries.
Astrid Alauda

To be honest, it’s all of the above and more, and it’s flipping scary to have to experience – especially combined. My name is Emma and I suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Anxiety and Mild Depression – I was diagnosed with PTSD in 2013, Anxiety in 2013 and Mild Depression in 2015.
So, let’s start from the beginning shall we? I was first diagnosed with PTSD and Anxiety after experiencing a traumatic event in 2013, which then in turn ended up going to court. I attend counselling for a short while but it took 3 months for work colleagues to convince me that I needed help after an emotional breakdown at work. After my first session I felt relieved and attend several more until I myself felt I was ready to no longer attend, what a mistake that was. I was coping with the situation quite well and after finishing in court I felt relieved my ordeal was over, little did I know how much it would affect me in future.
About 6 months after the event was dealt with I started having these ‘attacks’, I use the term attacks loosely, and would feel like a complete freak. My body would start to feel faint; my eyes would then start to have almost pinhole vision – as if someone was closing curtains from the sides inwards, the shaking in my hands would increase and proceed to take over my whole body, I would feel sick and my head would feel like it wanted to explode. Once these ‘attacks’ passed I would feel very drained, emotionally, mentally and physically, at first I thought it was diet so I switched it up incorporating more fruit/vegetables into it and cutting out a lot of sugars (I try to do a 80/20 diet, so I eat 80% good and then allow myself 20% of naughtiness). Since the change in diet helped I put it down to that and thought no more of it.
8-9 months later I experienced another ‘attack’ and then they started happening more frequently, which coincided with a change in lifestyle/priorities/worries. These continued to happen for a couple of months before I went to the doctors concerned that my hair was greasy all the time, I was getting loads of spots, I was tired and teary ALL the time, I took things to heart a lot, my hair was snapping off even with no heat being applied for 3 months +. That was the moment she simply turned round to me and said “What would you say if I said I think your suffering from Anxiety and Mild Depression?” Well that was it, I broke down crying and said I JUST WANT SOMEONE TO HELP ME – These are the words that are changing my life for the better.

She immediately put me onto anti-depressants and organised blood tests, an initial counselling consultation and a double appointment with herself in 3 weeks’ time, just by her doing this I felt sick. I felt like I had failed myself, aged 21 and being on anti-depressants …. Why is this happening to me? What have I done with my life? Why am I not strong enough to deal with this? Why I am so stupid that I can’t just cope with it? These are the questions I ask myself after I’ve had an anxiety attack.
Suffering from Anxiety/PTSD/Depression is blimin’ scary and you do feel really alone, you feel as though no one else in the whole world understands what you’re going through, but they do, I’ve met so many amazing people who have gone through the same process of denial, anger, upset and acceptance and they’ve come out so much stronger in the end. I used to get, and sometimes still do, get so worked up and angry with myself for having this but it’s not my fault, nor is it anyone else’s fault, it’s just simply a reaction to something my brain couldn’t/didn’t want to process at the time and each time it attempts to process the series of events it still struggles too.
With a combination of training at the gym, support from my doctor, counsellor, manager at work, partner and even my private Pilate’s instructor, I feel like I’m gaining control of my life again. I still suffer with the anxiety attacks but now when they happen, I’m more aware there going to happen or happening – I even have a quiet place at work I can go to when I’m having one and my manage will just come and quietly sit with me until it’s over.
Everyone and anyone who has experienced, is experiencing or is starting to experience PTSD/Anxiety/Depression deserves to be helped. NO ONE should feel like a freak and feel like they can’t tell someone about it or even begin to address it, learn from my mistakes. The sooner you come to terms with it, I promise you the easier it will be start helping yourself.

I promise you nothing is as chaotic as it seems. Nothing is worth your health. Nothing is worth poisoning yourself into stress, anxiety, and fear.

Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer - Classc Beige

Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer - Classic Beige
When I finished my Maybelline Instant Age Rewind concealer I knew I had to go out and get some more but when I hit the shops and couldn’t find it in my colour…I panicked, I had no other under eye concealers and desperately needed one. So the hunt began, trawling up and down the aisles swatching as I went and eventually I found this bad boy.
The Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer spoke to me, I have mine in Warm Beige. It has peptides and a vitamin moisturising complex to visibly reawaken and illuminate the under eye area. Was I disappointed? No I was not! This concealer really does do what it says on the tin, no word of a lie. The consistency is slightly thinner compared to the Maybelline concealer or the NARS Radiant Creamy Conealer and I personally found I had to build on it a bit to get the required dark circle coverage I so desired, but it doesn’t go cakey, it doesn’t accentuate fine lines and wrinkles, and it doesn’t dry the under eye area out. Personally I found it better suited for my skin type than the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer and it's a pretty damn close match.
The doe foot applicator makes it super easy to glide the concealer on and is easy enough to put onto a brush to apply to blemishes. I found that it does blend out best with a sponge applicator (review to come) but when I’m super rushed and just need to slap my make-up on it blends seamlessly with your fingers for the under eye area. It does provide the anti-fatigue effect and really makes me look awake; I found this concealer can be slightly slippery so I set it with the Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder, in Transparent 1, before applying my Bare Minerals foundation.

The longevity of this concealer is brilliant, I can apply it at 6am when I’m getting ready for work set it with some powder and it will last me until 5:30pm when I get home and take my makeup off. Bearing in mind it doesn’t look quite how it did when I first applied it, it’s staying power is exceptional and by the end of the day it hasn’t sunk into any lines and still has a decent amount of coverage.

Origins Original Skin Serum

Origins Original Skin Serum

I’ve never really grasped the concept of serums, aren’t they just like moisturisers? While facial serums can give you added moisture, the main reason you'd want to use a facial serum is to get added nutrients into deeper layers of your skin that a regular moisturizer is not able to reach. You can get many types of serums such as anti-aging serums, skin brightening serums and even acne preventative serums but today I’m looking at the Origins Original Skin Serum.

This serum has all the goodness your skin could possibly ever want in life, it has Persian Silk tree to de-stress the skin, Chestnut Seed extract to smooth roughness (a god send for me), Willowherb to give you that glow from within, and Algae to help reduce oil and pores, and that’s just to name but a few! Plus knowing it’s cruelty free means your skin also gets peace of mind. It has a velvet texture and a slightly pink tone to the serum it's self, which I assume is the radiance boosting bit, it does not alter your skin tone to be more pink at all but simply evens it out more than anything.

I’ve been using this serum every evening after I take my makeup off, and every morning before I apply it and I can really see a difference in myself. My makeup applies and looks flawless and my skin just has this youthful glow about it, all the dry areas where concealer can sometimes stick too has gone, and my pores have reduced – dramatically. It has a very light floral sent and you only need 1 pump to do your entire face, plus it only takes about 30 seconds to fully absorb into your skin.
If you’ve seen my post on Looking After Your Skin in Your 20-Somthings (can be found here) then you’ll know for a quarter of a life crisis, this is the one. If you’re not quite ready for major anti-ageing but want to start really investing and taking care of your skin, then this is the one.

Spa Experience at Regal Hair & Beauty

Spa Experience at Regal Hair & Beauty
I was fortunate enough to participate in a VIP Spa Experience day hosted at Regal Hair and Beauty, on the outskirts of Stratford Upon Avon, this spa experience day lasted 4 and a half hours and was the most luxurious day I’ve had in a long time. The experience included drinks on arrival, the choice of 2 treatments, hair and make-up followed by a photo shoot and then afternoon tea in the viewing room where you can choose a photo from your shoot to take home.
The day started bright and early at 9am, as we walked up to the front door of the converted barn you expected it to be very small on the inside but as we approached the door opened and we were greeted by one of the front of house staff and we walked into the most beautiful spa I’ve ever been into. We took a seat looking onto the spa and where offered a choice of Tea/Coffee/Orange Juice/Bubbly and asked to fill out a short medical form, once completed we were then offered a choice of treatments lasting 25 minutes each these included- Manicure, Pedicure, Facial, or a Back/Shoulder/Neck Massage.

I choose a Back/Shoulder/Neck Massage with a Pedicure to follow, and my Mum who came with me choose the Facial and Pedicure, both where incredibly luxurious with the aromatic oils and lotions. As we walked across the foyer we were taken to an alcove and entered through a door into our treatment room, we were then introduced too our therapists and explained what we would need to do and who was going to be looking after us. The room had 2 large beds ready prepared for us and was decorated in deep/warm purples, cool toned greys and lavish materials, once we had gotten ourselves ready to begin the ladies re-entered the room and begun (for the Back/Shoulder/Neck Massage you also get asked what sort of pressure you would want and where your problem areas are) we were fully relaxed with the facial and massage and calming music being played in the background.

After we had indulged in our facial/massage we then had our pedicures’ done, which involved pushing the cuticle back, base coat, colour of choice and top coat, followed by foot cream. From here we then went walked across the barn and sat in the hair/make-up area, offered more beverages, and then had full hair and make-up done by professional hair and make-up artists. We were then met by the photographer who escorted us to the top of the barn and into the changing area where we had our cases brought up for us earlier on in the day, we then changed into our outfits starting with Smart and moving into Casual wear after the shoot we were then taken down to the foyer, we were then offered further beverages whilst waiting for our afternoon tea. After a short wait we were then taken through to the Viewing Room, this was where our afternoon tea was ready and waiting for us along with all the photos from our shoot.

Eating and drinking through our afternoon tea we were then looking through our photos and choosing our favourite one to be burned to disc, which we then owned full copyright too. Half way through we were offered further beverages and once had decided which photo we wanted it was burned to the disc and we were done of the day. We finished at about 12:30pm and after beginning at 9am it was the most lavish Sunday morning I’ve ever had.

Are you near Stratford Upon Avon or Cheltenham and want to have this experience? Well click on the link below and book in now! I promise you will not be disappointed.

Bare Minerals Face and Eye Brightener

Bare Minerals Face and Eye Brightener

I am always so late to the band wagon que with new releases because like you guys probably reading this now, I like to know someone’s personal opinion on a product before I go and put forward my hard earned money. I am always on the hunt for products that can not only multi task but can help to improve/brighten my appearance, and especially if they can make it look like those pesky dark circles and discolouration never existed, wishful thinking.  So I went and looked at Bare Minerals who are my go to brand for new products because I know they will not react with my skin in a bad way or be rubbish quality, and I found this Face and Eye Brightener, naturally my thinking process was – Haven’t tried it, want it.

If you know me, and if you don’t here’s a fact about me, you know I like to use concealer as my primary product when creating my base, sometimes I only use concealer and just use a tiny bit of foundation to just help blend it with my skin. So when I read into the Bare Minerals Face and EyeBrightener (I have mine in Well Rested) a bit more and discovered it can be used underneath or on top of make-up, I was sold – Sad that I can get hooked so easily. The hard tube casing for this product is quite unexpectedly weighty, which kind of felt nice as it makes me feel like they’ve put some time and money into it, the product comes out of a synthetic brush nib on the end of the brush and with a clockwise twisting bottom you can always get the right amount of product that you want without twisting too much out.

The product it’s self is sticky in texture, which is weird because I expected it to be very fluid and slippery but does blend out easily and doesn’t feel tacky once blended. I’ve been really noticing a difference in how my makeup looks when using this product as part of my base, so before I’ve applied my concealer I like to add this; to the tops of my cheekbones, centre of my forehead/down the bridge of my nose, slightly below my under eye/dark circle area and just a little in the hallows of my cheeks/under my cheekbones. And to be honest, even without any other make up on this stuff really does make your skin look wonderful, it emphasized my cheekbones with the same effect as contouring them, helped to disguise/correct my dark circles, and helped to give my skin a glowly boost of radiance.

With the rest of my products then added on top, this product has made my skin look so flawless and healthy, plus due to the tacky application it sticks around for a very long time. I gave this product a real trial run by wearing it on a day where my partner and I went to Kingsbury Water Park for the day soaking up the Autumnal sunshine, and no word of a lie this stuff stayed put the whole time. I would definitely say this product is slowly creeping up my top 10 list for makeup must haves this autumn and will be staying there for a while.

DECLÉOR Aromessence Neroli Night Balm

DECLÉOR Aromessence Neroli Night Balm

I’ve had a very educated skincare/make up upbringing, which I am very thankful for now that I am older. DECLÉOR is a brand that I’ve known of since a very young age; my Mum used to use DECLÉOR in her skincare and still does use the Neroli NightBalm. So when I ran out of my most recent pot of night balm I rushed online to try and order it but because this stuff lasts for such a long time, my old pot had been completely redesigned in packaging and in name! So with thanks to DECLÉOR on Twitter I found it and ordered another pot which will probably just as long, if not longer.
This DECLÉOR Aromessence Neroli Night Balm is a mulit purpose holy grail product; it’s suitable for all skin types, can be used on insect bites, in-grown hairs and burns as an emergency SOS solution, plus it’s preservative free and can be used on the tips of your hair!! I mean what more could you want from a night balm?! My previous pot lasted me just over a year and I was using it 2 – 3 times a week or consecutively for a few nights if my skin was out of control. As the name suggests it’s an overnight balm and you only need the tiniest bit of balm to rub between your fingers and then spend a minute gently massaging this into your face and neck.
Some of the amazing 100% NATURAL ingredients this little pot of wonder includes are – Basil to purify and heal the skin, Neroli to soften, Camomile to prevent the appearance of dark spots and calm the skin, Tonka Bean to boost micro-circulation to the skins surface. Plus a combination of plant oils including Avocado, Hazelnut and Beeswax – These all help to hydrate and repair the skin.
I have the weirdest skin type at the moment, it’s oily, dehydrated, sore, and seems to be having dry patches so when you put this on after you’ve cleansed and toned your skin but before you go to bed it’s nourishing ingredients get to work. It has the most sensual calming aroma that isn’t overpowering but will help your body naturally relax from the inside out; you wake up with completely rebalanced skin and also thanks to the skin calming micro-circulation boosting ingredients it really helps with fighting angry spots.
If you want a 100% natural night balm which will rehydrate, boost, heal, soften and calm your skin, just to name a few, then spend that little bit extra and buy a pot of this. If your skin is anything like mine and rejects anything that’s trying to help it, it will thank you for this.

Looking After Your Skin in Your 20-Somethings’

Looking After Your Skin in Your 20-Somethings’

This isn’t a talked about enough subject for young adults, we’re just at the age where we’re starting to be aware of the suns damage and how important it is to look after our skin to ensure it’s at it’s absolute best in later life. There are so many products out there that are aimed at adults 30+ for skin tightening, wrinkle reducing, replumping etc but nothing aimed at young adults who are 20 something and want to start protecting and preparing their skin.

Don’t panic I’m not going to reel off a list as long as my arm of what you should or shouldn’t be using but simply show you the products I use and how they’ll benefit you and your skin too.

You spend a good amount of time applying your make up like you’re creating a piece of art, but did you know that if you don’t take it off before you go to bed you can really damage your skin? Well I suggest you start, tonight, all the oils your skin produces and dirt that you get bombarded with in everyday life going about town or walking the dog or even just nipping to the shops, are still clinging onto your face, which can cause premature lines, wrinkles and spots (sorry about the yucki details but it has to be said). I swear by Emma Hardie’s Moringa CleansingBalm it really purifies the skin with so much goodness and leaves it feeling clean, soft, supple and moisturised. It contains Vitamin E which will brighten dull complexions and also removes every single trace of make-up that you've had on.

I'm a real newbie to this whole Serum business, so through research I've found the Origins Original SkinRenewal Serum to be the best fit for 20-something skin. It contains some amazing stuff like willow herb which helps bring back vibrancy, Persian Silk Tree which helps skin bounce back, Chestnut Seed Extract which helps smooth rough patches, Algae which helps to shrink pores, the list of goodness is endless! I've found this stuff absolutely amazing so far, if you’re looking into taking care of your skin but don't think you quite need full blown anti-ageing lotions and potions, then this stuff if is the Serum for you. I'll be doing a full review in a few months when I've given this Serum a real using.

Toner is kinda a biggie, it shrinks pores, it regulates your skins pH balance, it adds a layer of protection, it refreshes and it can prevent ingrown hairs. If your super lazy, like me, you can get spray toners like the La Roche Posay Serozinc Spray and just give your skin a good spritz after you've cleansed your face. This one is particularly good as it helps to prevent spots invading your face, keeps your pores tight and really makes your skin feel refreshed, plus it’s hypoallergenic and is suitable for/aimed at acne prone skin.

Your foundation can also play a huge roll in caring for your skin; does yours have SPF in it? SPF, Sun Protection Factor, can be found in most foundations it basically will protect your skin from the suns UV radiation and prevent premature ageing and wrinkles/fine lines. I will always swear by Bare Minerals for my foundation and haven’t strayed from it since being introduced to it by my Mum when I was 13, I tend to use either the BM Original Powder Foundation SPF 15 or the BM SerumFoundation SPF 20, all of these have great SPF and coverage so you not compromising on coverage or protection.

Eye cream we all know about them but none of us really understand which one to buy, half the time we don’t know which one that’s going to give us the best results without making our skin lax in later life. So The Body Shop is my fail safe for anti-ageing products, there natural, not tested on animals and are always happy to help, this is how I discovered THE best eye cream for when you’re in your 20-Somthings’. This is the Body Shop Vitamin E Eye Cream, it is cheap as chips and works amazingly well, it soothes and protects, hydrates, reduces puffiness and reduces the appearance of fine lines, plus it makes your under eye area so exceptionally smooth. I use mine every morning and evening, before I apply my makeup and after I cleansed my skin, it may take a while to see a difference but the difference is phenomenal my dark circles are reduced, there’s no puffiness and I barely have any lines around my eye area.

I hope this little break down has helped you think about your skincare and taking care of your skin differently, if you have any questions, as always, feel free to drop me an email, leave a comment down below or ask me over on Twitter & Instagram ( @realist_review )

NARS Blush - Tribulation

NARS Blush - Tribulation

After trying my first ever NARS product, the NARS Audacious Mascara, I was so excited to try more of the brand purely because of the unbelievable quality. So I went straight onto Space NK and discovered the NARS Blush in Tribulation, which looked like it could also pass as a highlighter, as I prefer to be completely unconventional.

Again I wasn't disappointed, the quality of this blush is incredible and the pigmentation is just phenomenal. It can be applied sheer at first but you can build up the intensity so quickly and smoothly, so if you want/prefer a more natural highlight some days but like to be able to build on it maybe later in the evening then this is for you. It gives the skin this striking healthy radiant glow without looking glittery and gives your skin incredible depth and dimension.

The application of this blush is like nothing else, the only thing I can think of comparing it too is The Balm Mary Loumanizer – and I don’t just compare things to that highlight willy nilly. It glides onto the skin and can be blended so easily with a brush or your fingers, plus it doesn’t just deposit one big chunk onto your skin for you to then blend it out. The blush is enriched with Vitamin E, which also helps to encourage and aid a healthy complexion, it’s multi tonal pigmentation means it would be perfect for every skin type/colour going.

It longevity is incredible, and like the Mary Loumanizer it lasts for me from 6:15am until 6:00pm, even after I’ve hit the gym after work. Unlike most it has a very rich golden colouring to it but it’s not a flat gold, it’s a very multi-dimensional subtle gold with flecks of different tones throughout. For what is a blush but can also be used as, and predominantly is for me, a highlighter this is definitely worth the money.
